This summer in Dunbar, eleven Scottish artists have been selected for the John Muir Open to offer an opportunity to develop their personal environmental practice in a joint exhibition. Titled ‘TIDE’ it aims to continue an already growing dialogue around our relationship with nature, how we live and our impact on the environment; encouraging artists to explore, in contemporary ways, the philosophies of John Muir.
On display will be very individual artworks – from sound installation to works made with found objects, 3D printing to painting. Some artists will explore through participatory practices with the community, in contemporary dance and work with plastics on the quayside in connection with Dunbar Harbour Trust, another artist inviting people to a medicinal foraging walk. To enhance the conversation the artists will be in discussion with other local specialists who will investigate the theme. These events combine to raises questions that are meaningful and relevant to our locality, how we will live in the world in the future and how we think about achieving greener and more sustainable living.
The exhibitors are: Jenny Pope, A McNiven, Ellis O’Connor, Emily Joy, Giulia Gentili, Julia Barton, Karen Gabbitas, Natalie Taylor, Rowena Comrie, Sam Anderson and Saffy Setohy and Joanna Young (collaborating nationally with: Aya Kobayashi, Nicolette Mcleod and Jamie Grier)
