EDINBURGH COFFEE FESTIVAL takes place on Saturday 5th October 2019, at The Edinburgh Corn Exchange and, whilst never forgetting its focus on taste and coffee knowledge, sustainability will be a key theme once again this year.
In a brand new development the ‘Coffee Garden’, constructed by GP Plantscape, is coming to town for the festival. At a time when climate change is arguably the most pressing of global challenges, the garden will highlight the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) work to address the issue of worldwide plant conservation. RBGE is currently conducting work in Colombia, one of the world’s greatest coffee-producing nations, looking at how, as the climate is changing, it could affect coffee production.
Alistair Gower from East Lothian business The Chocolate Tree will also be in attendance to give a talk called ‘Saving the planet with Chocolate’. Something most people surely wouldn’t hesitate to get behind!
Edinburgh Coffee Festival is also a Zero Waste Event. The festival is supported by award-winning catering disposables company Vegware and welcomes glassware brand SoLCups and Revive-Eco who will be collecting all of the coffee grounds and extracting their high-value oils for use in a variety of industries from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics.
The festival, which attracts over 2000 visitors, will also play host to over 40 speciality coffee and tea exhibitors, showcasing just how dynamic the coffee scene in Scotland is. The festival will focus on teas and hot chocolates as well as baking, cakes and other food and drink.
Edinburgh Coffee Festival 2019 also includes:
- Talks, demonstrations and cuppings, plus interactive FREE coffee skills workshops (including hour-long sessions with the Speciality Coffee Association, as well as a more in-depth, paid for, course which include free entry to the festival), tastings and demonstrations such as masterclasses in tea brewing. - Stalls by local roasters and coffee shops, cake makers, hot chocolate specialists, hot and cold street food, sellers of brewing equipment and more. Exhibitors include Brewlab, Farm Boy Brews, Daterra Coffee, Alpro, Chocolate Tree, Django Coffee Co., Hasbean Coffee, Caravan Coffee Roasters, Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company and many more. - The World AeroPress Championship (a global coffee-making competition, designed to find the world’s best AeroPress brew and sponsored by iZettle) takes place in London in November. Edinburgh Coffee Festival is honoured and delighted to have been chosen as hosts to Scotland’s national heat.
